Below are real maps of the cities and places and textures that reflect how I perceive these places.

I dislike hate, but i’m distracted by hatred,

I like direction, but surroundings are undirected,

I want love, but I want to love myself,

I like the end, but there is no ending,

I feel for it, but what is that it?

Here is a series of Pig headed nudes I did recently, titled: “We are all animal.”

I have been looking at the journey the meat we eat takes from farm to plate. Its easy to eat some foods without even knowing what meat is in them, let alone where the meat is from. I am not a vegetarian yet I believe we all need to think more about the quality of the life the animal has had, and be more aware of the food we eat. These images show the close relationship between pigs and humans, as at the end of the day we are all animals.

http://freddiestrickland.tumblr.com/

My work mainly moves between the mediums of print, drawing and metal work. I’m fascinated by the limitless variation of imagery that can be created from a single surface. When I make a print I discover a new landscape, a frozen moment in a changing cycle, either revealed through rusting a surface and witnessing the build up of organic matter or by biting in to steel with acids and viewing their effects. This method of working allows me to collaborate with the materials, guiding their direction but never quite knowing what will be revealed to me at the end. Each piece evolves as a fusion of planned intent and serendipity.

The questioning of who we are is always one question many of us are asking ourselves. The series shows the relationship between the individual and empty spaces. Giving time for the individual to reflect on their life, see the journey ahead, searching for who they are; their identity in the constant search for beauty…

The project explores themes of surveillance, voyeurism and boredom through the use of extremely long exposures (one week plus) to photograph personal space. This project recently won the Conceptual category of the Ideas Tap Photographic Award in association with Magnum photos. I am really keen to get some local exposure for this work as I need to find new volunteers to have cameras installed in their rooms, to keep the project going - having exhausted those who can be found through Facebook!

Thursday 1 March 2012, Lecture A Tremough Campus

5.30pm – 6.30pm

Tim Donaldson

Senior Lecturer, BA(Hons) Graphic Design

“I’m working on a title but I’m planning for the content to embrace things that have not yet happened”

Timothy Donaldson is a letter worker, a practicing graphic designer, type designer and action calligrapher with enthusiasm for the use, abuse and reuse of text as a communication device. He is the author of ‘Shapes for sounds’, a widely available treatise on the past, present and future of the Latin alphabet. He teaches via the media of the lecture, the seminar, the workshop, the demonstration and studio practice. He believes that graphic design is the most important method we have for mediating our culture and is devoted to raising the world’s awareness to match its ubiquity.

He is well known for his on-going experiments with tools and chirographic mark-making, particularly in large scale performances which explore the convergences of group narratives, divergent orthographies, semiotics and action drawing. He continues to perform and lecture internationally, design typefaces and contribute to the global corpus of critical graphic design writing and now teaches at University College Falmouth, where he attempts to trace a meaningful path between the history, theory and practice of graphic design.

so long from us, HELLO to you!

We’re on our way out…
